Radar (Solution Details)

Security radar provides reliable, 24/7 detection and tracking across large areas, helping organizations strengthen perimeter security and identify potential intrusions before they reach critical areas. Unlike video surveillance alone, radar can maintain consistent detection in darkness and challenging environmental conditions such as rain, fog, smoke, and snow.

Integrated with YourSixOS, security radar can continuously detect, classify, and track moving objects such as people and vehicles. This makes radar especially effective for creating virtual buffer zones around property perimeters, monitoring open areas, and providing an additional layer of detection alongside video surveillance.

By combining security radar with cameras, analytics, notifications, and professional monitoring, organizations can improve situational awareness while reducing unnecessary alarms. Radar-video fusion devices can further enhance detection by combining radar data with visual verification for a more complete understanding of activity across a protected area.

Value Radar Brings to Your Physical Security Solution

  • Detection in Difficult Conditions: Radar systems can effectively detect in harsh weather conditions, including rain, fog, and snow, where visual systems may fail.
  • Coverage & Wide FoV: Radar can identify objects over long distances, decreasing the number of devices required for complete coverage.
  • Discreet Monitoring: Unlike cameras, which capture images of individuals, radar provides data without detailed visual information, offering a layer of privacy while maintaining security.
  • Reliable Identification: Radar systems can accurately distinguish between humans, vehicles, and animals, thereby reducing false alarms.

Radar Applications

Security radar is well suited for environments where organizations need reliable detection across large, open, or difficult-to-monitor areas. By continuously detecting, classifying, and tracking movement, radar can provide early awareness of people and vehicles approaching or moving through protected areas, even in darkness or challenging weather conditions.

Common security radar applications include:

  • Perimeter Security: Create virtual detection zones around property boundaries to identify people or vehicles before they reach buildings, equipment, or other critical assets.
  • Critical Infrastructure: Monitor utilities, energy facilities, telecommunications sites, and other critical infrastructure where early detection and reliable perimeter protection are essential.
  • Construction Sites: Protect equipment, materials, and temporary facilities across large outdoor areas where permanent security infrastructure may be limited.
  • Parking Lots and Garages: Detect and track movement across parking areas while using associated cameras to provide visual verification of activity.
  • Warehouses and Industrial Facilities: Monitor yards, loading areas, storage areas, and facility perimeters for unexpected activity.
  • Remote and Temporary Locations: Extend detection to locations where staffing is limited and security teams rely on remote or professional monitoring.

When combined with video surveillance, analytics, notifications, and professional monitoring through YourSixOS, security radar becomes part of a unified security workflow that connects early detection with visual verification and response.

Camera Plus Radar

radar-video-fusion-security-camera.jpgLooking to combine radar and visual surveillance? The AXIS Q1656 and Q1686 Radar-Video Fusion Camera features a visual sensor (camera) and radar, enabling double verification that enhances detection accuracy by requiring both radar and video confirmations before triggering alerts. It also features deep learning-based object classification, along with capabilities for measuring distance and speed.

Radar Subscriptions

Each radar device requires a base device subscription to connect to and operate within YourSixOS. Subscriptions are assigned per device, based on IP address, and provide access to centralized management, monitoring, events, and other supported platform capabilities.

Radar-video fusion devices, including the AXIS Q1656 and AXIS Q1686, require a single base device subscription. Because radar and video are integrated within the same device, an additional base subscription is not required for the radar functionality.

Cloud storage is optional and is assigned per video stream. Organizations can add cloud storage based on their recording and retention requirements while using the radar capabilities without a cloud storage subscription.
